I have recently been the victim of a downsizing. It’s been difficult to mentally deal with it, since I’ve been at the same company for more than 15 years and I haven’t looked for a job in 20 years. The last job I got, I didn’t even have to find—it found me. Someone I know recommended me and I interviewed and got the job. Now I am facing a job hunting situation and I’m pretty rusty about the whole process. I need some pointers to get me started.
The interviewer asks: Why has it taken you so long to find a job?
It’s difficult to believe that employers are still asking this type of question. Don’t they read the newspapers or listen to the news? If they were informed, they would know the answer; i.e. jobs are very scarce and difficult to find these days, and unemployment is still high, despite improvements in the economic picture.
