Let's Cut to the Chase

Do you want more meaning, money and fun from your recruiting efforts?

The Challenge: Let's face it, without meaningful work, good money and plenty of fun, recruiting would be a real drag. So how do you get these three things consistently?

The Solution: This solution combines many of the others listed here. Meaning comes from being genuine in your desire to help your clients and candidates to reach their objectives. It also comes from aligning your personal values with the way that you express and conduct yourself as a professional recruiter or firm owner. Integrity has an attractive quality that tends to draw success and affluence to you.

Good money comes from a combination of skill, discipline, tenacity and the ability to keep focused on the "money activities" while being less uptight about the placements. As an owner, focus on profits first and sales second. Take a long-term view of this business and view yourself as a solution provider for your clients. Are there other needs that they have that you could be helping them with (research, unbundled services, reference checks, different departments hiring etc.)? Are there opportunities in front of you to diversify and even out the production cycles (fee based training for applicants, new niche markets, adding services etc.)?

It has been said that if you love your career or business, you'll never have to work another day of your life. Fun is all about your attitude. Put a pinball machine in the break room. Have a contest based on activity and reward the winner with a Friday off at the end of the month. Get to know the people that you serve as real people. Ask, "What do you do in your free time". You will be surprised by what you hear and you will form more long lasting business relationships while at the same time enjoying your work more.
