5 Simple Secrets To Landing The Job Of Your Dreams

‘Job Search Secrets’

Jimmy Sweeney, President of CareerJimmy and Author of the new, “Amazing Cover Letter Creator.”

Do you follow the same old safe, predictable pattern as 99% of all people do when it comes to searching for a job? Do you send your cover letter and resume ONE TIME and one time only—to no one in particular or, “To whom it may concern?”

Today, you’re about to discover my 5 simple secrets for landing any job you desire.

SECRET #1 — The “special place” to send your cover letter and resume.

This ‘special place’ is actually the office of the specific person who schedules interviews!

That’s right, whenever possible send your application to an actual living and breathing, decision-making person. Address your cover letter to this specific individual by name. Do whatever it takes to get that name.

Important: If this is a job posting online and you simply can’t find the proper person’s name, ADDRESS THAT ISSUE, early in your cover letter.

Example: “I am really interested in this position and wanted you to know that I did try to find the person’s name to address my letter. I am quite confident your name is not “To whom it may concern.” (A dash of humor can go a long way to show you’re personal side).

Most job seekers address their cover letters like this: To whom it may concern: Dear Sirs: Dear hiring manager: Dear Madam: Cue the ‘snoozzzzze button.’

What do these job hunters have in common? Blindfolds! If they hit the desired target, it’s a lucky shot. First, you must find out where the bulls eye is, then you take aim and fire away.

Decide WHAT you’re searching for and exactly WHO you’re sending your cover letter and resume to whenever possible. This focused approach will yield the fastest results.

COVER LETTER TIP: Keep your cover letter personal, friendly, enthusiastic and brief (one page max). I repeat, personal, friendly, enthusiastic and brief! And don’t be afraid to actually ASK for the interview towards the end of your cover letter. (Source - Amazing Cover Letters)

SECRET #2 — DO IT AGAIN!

That’s right! Send the same person another cover letter and resume.

This is referred to as a ‘follow-up cover letter.’ As a rule of thumb, wait 7 days to 10 days and if you have not been called for an interview, send the same person a follow-up cover letter attached with your resume giving you a SECOND CHANCE at the job.

So simple… so powerful.

Follow-up cover letters mathematically DOUBLE your chances of getting interviewed. You’ll be doing what 99% of all job seekers don’t do. Oh how scary.

Doesn’t this make perfect sense to you? Take the time to contact the company you’d like to work for twice, and you are likely to get noticed the second time around. Most job seekers give up after sending one application for the job. Don’t make that mistake especially when it’s so easy to send a follow-up cover letter.

FOLLOW-UP COVER LETTER TIP: The only change to this cover letter from the original is the first paragraph. State to the same person that you are following up after your first contact, letting him or her know that you're still interested, enthusiastic and available for the position. SECRET #3 — DIAL AN INTERVIEW...

How would you like to do something really special? Get on the phone and make a follow-up PHONE CALL as well! If you want the job you’ve got to go after it. This important and easy step — making a phone call — will insure that you are a persistent and responsible go-getter — a person any company would want to hire.

Don’t worry too much about “bothering” someone with your phone call. Use common sense and be polite.

Can you imagine a company that is not looking for this type of employee? By following up on your first contact you are not only twice as likely to get noticed and interviewed, but you are sure to make a positive impression.

FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL TIP: Make this call about the same time you send your follow-up cover letter. Phone the same person you had contacted the first time around. Remind him or her of your original and follow-up letters. Re-state your interest and show your passion for this position and ASK for the job interview. (Source - Amazing Cover Letters)

SECRET #4 — TRIPLE your chances of getting hired with...

The ‘Post-Interview Cover letter!’

Here’s a completely overlooked and incredibly effective cover letter that can single-handedly land you the job.

After any job interview, send the person who conducted your interview a ‘post-interview cover letter’ that says thank you for the opportunity. Restate your passion, enthusiasm, availability and interest in being hired for the job. And of course, I encourage you to make a post-interview phone call as well if it feels right to do so. If the interview went especially well you can comment on that too.

How can a company possibly resist taking a chance on hiring someone who shows so much energy and persistence for landing the job? You’re becoming irresistible!

POST-INTERVIEW COVER LETTER TIP: Obviously you want to address this letter by name to the person who conducted the interview. You’ll also want to keep this cover letter friendly, enthusiastic and very brief (one or two paragraphs max). Don’t be afraid to ASK for the job! SECRET #5 — RINSE AND REPEAT!

Use Secrets 1-4 over and over targeting companies you have a passion to work for. Otherwise your job search lacks direction and focus. Dare to be different and PERSISTENT. If you don’t, you are simply joining the masses in the typical, disappointing search for another J--O--B!
