Job Description: The Sr. Scientist will demonstrate high-quality technical proficiency and/or generating scientific results coupled with wider technical/scientific thinking, planning and input, based on advanced knowledge of their discipline. The individual has advanced knowledge of varied aspects or a specialized aspect of a discipline and working knowledge of principles and concepts in other relevant disciplines. The Sr. Scientist applies technical and functional knowledge, and independently completes work within own project team, working on multiple sub projects in parallel. Acts as a technical and scientific resource within own project team/discipline. The individual provides leadership and direction in following SOPs and other guidelines and provides training to personnel as required. The Sr. Scientist proactively identifies and resolves potential problems and makes decisions that require a broad understanding of Comparative Medicine practices, regulatory requirements, and research requirements. Position Purpose: ? To lead in the site vivarium operations. ? To provide care and support for animals housed in the vivarium.
Organizational Relationships: ? Directly reports to the Associate Director ? Works closely with other technical staff within Comparative Medicine ? Works with other scientific user groups in conjunction with their animal studies ? May represent work group within department teams

Experience/Education: ? Education: Bachelors degree ? Professional Qualifications: AALAS certification preferred but not required. ? Experience: 2 to 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or related industry. ? Ability to interact with all levels of colleagues on project teams. ? Ability to stand, stoop, bend, and lift throughout the day. ? Ability to do repetitive work and to lift 30-50 pounds.
Major Duties: ? Oversee site vivarium operations, including gathering operational metrics, maintaining equipment inventory, and ensuring annual preventative maintenance is completed on schedule. ? Oversee microbial testing, water quality testing, and sentinel health monitoring program. ? Oversee in-house breeding activities, including daily operations of the breeding program. ? Provide technical support as needed. ? Assist in regulatory activities as needed, including preparation for internal and external audits/inspections. ? Assist in lab equipment operation, validation, troubleshooting, and monitoring as needed. ? Work closely with Comparative Medicine colleagues; may help prioritize workflow of less experienced colleagues. ? Work with the scientific staff to facilitate animal studies. ? Responsible for reading and understanding various Comparative Medicine policies and procedures. ? Must comply with Safety, Occupational Health, and various regulatory agency requirements. ? Assist in the development and revision of SOPs.
Professional Qualifications: AALAS certification preferred
