Department Function Distributed Systems Administration is responsible for the administration and management of multiple UNIX servers supporting DTCC? s Distributed Systems applications and services in Development, QA, Production and Participant Test environments. Part of this responsibility includes management of the Opsware environment for systems administration and maintenance.
Principal Responsibilities: Administration and configuration of Opsware SAS and PAS applications Debugging of low level operating system, networking, and application problems Cross train coworkers in the use, administration, and customization of Opsware Package custom technology and applications for use with Opsware Assist with the deployment of large scale, business critical applications using Opsware Develop custom workflows/automation using the Opsware APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) Work on AIX, Solaris and middleware application provisioning using Opsware. Development of knowledge briefs and best practices of the SAS/PAS solution Work on the mapping of Change and Release procedures for the management of the SAS solution utilizing the PAS workflow engine Perform server automation tasks, leveraging script programming skills. Experience Minimum 4 to 7 years experience managing UNIX Server environments, including OS installation, configuration and tuning. Experience with Opsware installation, setup, administration, provisioning and automation is required.
Knowledge/Skills Extensive experience using Opsware SAS and PAS (previously known as Orchestrator) applications. System Administration and operational experience on the following platforms: Linux, Solaris & AIX. Automation of common tasks with Perl, shell scripts or batch files. Experience with OS provisioning, and software management of complex middleware applications. Experience with software packaging and software distribution is a plus. Basic knowledge of NAS application is a plus. Ability to work well with customer teams and possesses outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Expertise in Network configuration and troubleshooting on large IP networks, DNS, DHCP administration is preferable but not required. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to make presentations to an internal audience. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to install, configure and maintain Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and Linux server Operating Systems. Trained in current releases of Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and popular Enterprise Linux distributions Server Systems Administration. Requires in-depth, hands-on expertise in managing UNIX environments, (AIX/Solaris/Linux). Posesses a solid knowledge of troubleshooting system problems and interacting positively with vendor support. Ability to write scripts in multiple administrative lanuages such as Korn/Bourne/C Shell, Perl, Tk. Trained on multiple Server Hardware Platforms. Familiarity with connecting EMC Symmetrix (DMX), CLARiiON and Sun StorEdge external storage arrays to UNIX and Linux servers. Ability to install, configure and manage storage with the AIX Logical Volume Manager. Veritas Volume Manager and Solstice Disk Suite (Solaris Volume Manager).
