Job Description: You will provide technical accounting research and consultation to management and the Global Controllers Group on significant, complex, non-routine transactions.
Perform thorough technical accounting research, make sound/strategic/subjective decisions and recommendations, effectively communicate technical accounting matters to non-technical personnel both verbally and in writing, and contribute to a strong professional team.
The firm's entities include a broad spectrum of financial service companies, including investment advisor companies, broker-dealer companies, bank and trust companies, transfer agent and corporate service companies, international operating companies, including international units.
DUTIES:
Perform technical accounting research of new, unusual or complex business transactions and structures and advising management and the Global Corporate Controller group on the appropriate accounting and external reporting treatment.
Write and document technical accounting and regulatory position papers.
Review and document global accounting policies and procedures in compliance with all accounting and reporting standards.
Support the Global Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting groups during the quarterly and annual close and reporting cycles to ensure efficient and accurate financial and regulatory filings.
Assist the Senior Manager, Global Accounting Policy with providing proactive, value-added advice to management on the potential impact of current and proposed accounting standards.
Monitor and report on the current FASB, IASB, EITF, PCAOB, and SEC activities.
Develop a plan for implementation of relevant global accounting standards. QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor and/or graduate degrees in accounting.
Minimum 6 years experience, preferably with a large public accounting firm.
Technical accounting experience in a corporate accounting / financial reporting function with a public corporation will be viewed favorably.
Previous exposure to the investment management or banking industries
Experience with integrated financial software such as Peoplesoft, Oracle or SAP a plus.
Knowledge and exposure to multi currency and international organizations will be viewed favorably.
CPA or equivalent.
Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
Solid technical accounting research skills.
Ability to interpret conceptual guidance issued from standard setters and regulators and use effective, thoughtful professional judgment when applying to the firm's circumstance.
