Job Description:
The VP of R&D/Operations will lead Company through continued product development of the brachytherapy product and implement a manufacturing facility for the Company's product..

The Company has successfully completed two rounds of financing with premier venture capital investors in the medical device sector. With innovative medical products addressing a very large market opportunity and solid financial backing.

General Responsibilities:
The VP Research and Development of Company will:
Report to the President & CEO and have responsibility for managing all aspects of product development, both internally and externally.
Provide leadership and vision to ensure that development goals are achieved.
-Assume full strategic, financial and operational responsibility for navigating through the critical research/development phases.
-Continually evaluate strategic direction of product development.
-Attract the brightest/best technical resources and manage/lead them to achieve their maximum potential.
-Work as member and a management team member on key strategic business issues and have accountability for operational planning and its successful execution.
-Build relationships and work with leading retinal specialists and other ophthalmologists.
Specific
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate:
-Must be able to Travel both domestic and internationally.
-Manage existing budgets and plan for future development expansions. This also includes managing the companies IP portfolio to maximize product protection and value.
-Build a first class team and integrate internal engineering with outside contractors. Utilize outside resources when financially and technically feasible.
-Work closely with senior management to align priorities and create a sense of urgency to ensure successful endpoints are achieved and timelines are met.
-Lead day-to-day development activities by demonstrating a visible presence, an emphasis on the "team," superior goal clarity, effective communication and organized problem solving.
-Help define and execute, as needed, the development strategy that strategically meets the companies marketing/selling and reimbursement strategy.
-Evaluate industry trends and be pro-active in altering products to enhance the financial value of the Company.
-Provide the necessary reporting materials and communicate effectively and openly to the Board of Directors.
-Develop rapport with key opinion leaders, clinicians, associations.

Experience Level:
5+ Years

Requirements:
*****Needs to be a local candidate with a PhD and 10 years experience in the medical device industry! Opthalmology experience, regulatory, quality, start-up experience, and good at making public presentations. *****

Doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent; or more that 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Minimum of 10 yrs of experience in the Medical field designing class II and III disposable reusable products.
-Have a track record of success as VP of engineering or Director in a medical device company through all development and phases, resulting in successful commercialization of the product(s) or acquisition of the company.
-Have experience with Class II & III products that are marketed to Ophthalmology or other medical specialty practices. Experience with products utilizing radiation or x-ray would also be desired.
-He/she will have a record of success in bringing new technology to the marketplace.
-Creates technical budgets, allocates resources, and determines schedule of product releases or project deadlines.
-Have a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work well with a board of directors.
-Have a consistent career history in strong, effective leadership and team building that clearly identifies the individual to be successful, a visionary and a good strategic thinker.
-Have a demonstrated ability to work with, hold accountable, and motivate, a highly experienced and capable engineering team to achieve desired goals.
-Have proven negotiation skills to maximize value in the event of liquidity through partnership or acquisition.
-Have a "hands-on" management style with the interpersonal skills required to hire and build a successful team and the desire to motivate, inspire/develop all employees.
-Possess high intelligence with effective analytical and problem solving skills.
-Be a positive, self-confident, decisive leader who has excellent communication skills in both oral and written formats, as well as excellent listening skills.
-Be a pro-active person, displaying initiative and perseverance in order to bring about meaningful change, and to be open/responsive to new ideas.
-Be known as a person who has high integrity, sound character, a tremendous work ethic and the passion to succeed.

Pay Rate:
$160,000 - $180,000 + 20% bonus
