Job Description: The primary role of the Application Support Specialist is: ? Perform Tier 1 production support for FMS supported production applications. The primary system to be supported will be a financial management, budget, and procurement systems using AIX/UNIX/Oracle. This position includes nighttime and weekend on-call, offsite coverage for daily, weekly, monthly, and special business cycles. Up to 50% of the working hours will be evening, weekend, or overnight onsite coverage and/or working alternative schedules (e.g., evening shift and/or weekends). ? Document problems using Clear Quest and/or other software reporting tool. ? Review changes to production job flows and communicate modifications to the job submission team. ? Verify the accuracy of software migrations to non-production and production. ? Support testing environments by ensuring scheduler, batch processes, cycle flows are setup as well as run and troubleshoot problems during testing.
The Application Support Specialist will perform the following tasks: ? participate in the deployment and daily operations of one or more FISA production systems ? provide rapid response to problems, solving or escalating the problem as necessary ? coordinate with production control and operational counterparts including DBA, Operations, and Tech Support ? document operational problems following standards and procedures ? create and execute procedures to verify that software components were successfully and completely migrated to production ? work with operational and production control staff ? set up and/or review jobs and scripts ? write and/or review operational procedures ? coordinate the use of testing environments including their configuration and data content ? assist the testing staff with technical issues and running operational jobs ? report on the status of problems
SKILLS ? Strong experience in AIX/Unix including script scripting and debugging ? Strong experience in JAVA/SQL using Oracle. This includes writing, debugging and modifying application programs. ? Experience in monitoring/reviewing the transition of software components to multiple environments and coordinating with local and remote project staff members. ? Solid understanding of tools and technologies to automate and mitigate risk around the migration and deployment of complex systems. ? Solid understanding of software configuration management best practice principles and software migration and deployment best practices principles ? Cursory knowledge of the Java language and COBOL languages and General knowledge of IBM Websphere application server and DB2. Working to support an ERP Accounting applications is a plus (e.g., Oracle Financials, SAP, PeopleSoft, etc.).
EXPERIENCE ? 3 or more years of experience with hands-on work with large, complex, application releases and support efforts specifically involving multiple development teams and platforms (J2EE and Mainframe). ? Working in a support role for at least one (1) full SDLC implementation in a hands-on position with responsibility for providing Tier 1 testing and production support involving coordinating and troubleshooting software migration and system processing.
