Job Description: Senior Oracle Applications DBA Responsibilities: Oracle Applications Database Administration, general Database Administration (Oracle, SQLServer) and the management of projects in this area.
Essential Functions: Provide the primary Database Administration function for the critical Oracle Applications E-Business environment to ensure its ongoing integrity, excellent performance and consistent uptime. Provide daily care and feeding of the Oracle Applications database to ensure that the database and its components remain optimized at all times. Provide daily production support and troubleshooting as needed to resolve Oracle Applications issues as quickly as possible. Create, implement and maintain an effective database monitoring methodology that ensures a timely, proactive notification of problem issues before they are business-impacting. Create, implement and maintain an effective troubleshooting methodology that ensures that problems are addressed in a consistent manner and resolved as quickly as possible. Create, implement and maintain an effective performance tuning methodology that calls for regular audits of the database, a means of addressing code issues, etc. Create, implement and maintain an effective capacity management methodology that utilizes partitioning, database archiving, etc in order to ensure that the database size is managed properly. Create, implement and maintain an effective patch management methodology that ensures the timely review and implementation of critical application and database patches. Create, implement and maintain an effective upgrade management methodology that ensures the timely upgrade of the application, the database and and third-party software as needed. Create, implement and maintain an effective backup and restore methodology that ensures that a good backup is maintained at all times and that Production restores can be executed as quickly as possible. Create, implement and maintain an effective disaster recovery methodology that ensures that the Oracle Applications environment can be restored within 48 hours of a disaster. This includes testing the plan yearly. Create, implement and maintain an effective refresh methodology that ensures that good, sound test environments can be maintained. This includes ensuring our ability to execute timely Test refreshes. It also includes ensuring that post-cloning steps are accurate at all times. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the Oracle Applications architecture and database management practices. Provide training to users, IT personnel and other DBAs as needed. Assist in the architecture and design of solutions pertaining to the Oracle Applications environment such as the creation of interfaces to other applications, the redesign of the Configurator middle tiers, etc. Assist in the technical evaluation of new application modules and third-party software. Install application software as required. Implement, administer, monitor and manage all additional software that interfaces with the Oracle Applications environment such as Noetix, Vertex, J-Initiator, JDK, Oracle Internet Directory, 9i/10g Application Server, Interconnect, Discoverer, etc. Provide project management for database administration projects and implementations. Coordinate offshore resources and hold daily team meetings when manager is not available. Assist in vendor relationship management and negotiations where appropriate. Assist in the implementation, administration, monitoring and management of all other Oracle, SQLServer and Allbase instances on all platforms as needed. For all Production and Development instances, work with the other System Services groups as well as Development, Production Support and Ecommerce personnel and vendors in order to achieve sufficient performance/capacity levels, resolve problem issues and make general improvements. Evaluate new Database Administration technologies and tools to remain current with Industry trends and practices and make recommendations for their application within the enterprise. Provide direction, assistance and support for the Development, Production Support and Ecommerce personnel in the design and development of instances for use with new and/or existing applications. Additional responsibilities as requested or required.
Experience Level: 5+ Years
Requirements: Qualifications: Six years of experience in Oracle Applications Database Administration on any one or more of these various platforms including HP MPE/iX, IBM AIX, SUN Solaris and/or Intel systems is required. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related business area is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of Server Administration, Security Administration, Network Administration and Application Development is preferred. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Off-hours availability is required.
