Job Description: Mechanical Research and Development Engineer - Salary up to 80K + bonus - Akron, OH, No relo; no sponsorship
Develops a working knowledge of standards, test reports and standard practice and how they apply to the mechanical/structural/aerodynamic design, detailing, procurement, fabrication, shipping and testing of large industrial fans/equipment. Researches, develops, tests and standardizes new concepts, designs and processes. The primary duties of the candidate will be the engineering activities associated with developmental project and contract execution. These activities entail: Analysis to determine the mechanical, structural, dynamic and aerodynamic characteristics and/or acceptability of a fan system or component. Creation of designs, layouts, performance characteristics and specifications. Packaging of work for designers, review and sign-off of drawings. Packaging of work for outside engineering services. Creation of purchasing specifications and review and acceptance of third-party drawings. Creation and maintenance of bills of material. Interfacing with procurement groups, buyers, fabricators and customers. Resolution of technical conflicts. Resolution of fabrication variances and field problems. Generation of test procedures, design of test tooling, test execution and reporting. Oversight of and responsibility for project progress. Cost optimizations and internal design reviews. Standardization of results, writing of standards, and the distribution of knowledge. Proposal support including specification review, site layouts, fan sizing, preliminary component selection, solicitation of component bids, development of cost and price, sales meetings with client and proposal generation
Work Experience/Skills - Must have a 4 year Engineering Degree The ideal candidate will have familiarity and/or experience with the following: a. Statics, mechanics, dynamics (vibration), fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, fatigue analysis, acoustics and metallurgy. b. Fabricated metal products, rotating equipment, weldments (including technologies and procedures), castings, machining, anti-friction and hydrodynamic bearings, couplings (including resilient and fluid types), dampers, silencing technologies, abrasion resistant coatings, vibration, pressure and temperature instrumentation, wiring, motors, variable speed drives, starters, actuators, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, and drafting conventions (including geometric tolerances). c. Standards: AMCA, ASTM, AISI, AWS, ASME, API, DIN, ISO d. Software: Autocad, Solidworks, Excel A willingness for occasional travel is required, domestic and international
