This contractor needs to help us with usability testing as well as with writing user interface specifications. We are looking for someone based in our Dayton, OH with a passion for improving the usability of online information sources and with 3+ years of experience in usability testing and writing user interface specifications. In detail this person would have to be able to autonomously go through all the stages of both usability testing as well as writing UI specifications:

Requirements:
Usability test: Set up: understanding how many and which types of users are needed to take part as participant in a test in order to achieve reliable results. Writing usability test scripts with the objective to obtain answers and insights in the most reliable way during testing
Conduct: have broad experience in conducting usability tests, including outstanding observation, interviewing and note taking skills
Analyse: Understand how to structure and interpret user feedback with a focus on capturing usability problems as well as translating results to potential solutions for the user interface.
present: have excellent presentation skills that are optimized for knowledge transfer in a large company with a high pace development cycle. Presenting results should geared toward supporting decision making around usability challenges in user interface design.
User Interface specifications
Has the technical writing skills to describe interaction flows, behaviours and screen layouts in the user interface in a clear and succinct style that avoids misinterpretations later on in the development cycle.
Should be able to think from a product users' perspective as well as from the perspective of developers information needs.
Must be able to create mock-ups of user interface screens in tools like Photoshop or Fireworks
Other
Experience with scientific information or large content-driven products is a big plus
Visual design skills are a big plus
Basic understanding of front-end development skills in (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a big plus
Is well able to work within a schedule of milestones and tight I
Is able to pro-actively communicate with fellow UCD experts as well as members of the large product organization from across cultures and timezones.
The start of the assignment is as soon as possible, the term is five months.
