Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION
Ensure regulatory compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations for operations in the United States.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Formulating environmental, health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Consulting on design and use of equipment; recommending corrective safety measures where indicated.

Administering the worker?s compensation program, including working with insurance carriers, doctors, therapists, claims handlers and surveillance personnel to reduce employee lost work time, minimize costs and control fraudulent or unjust claims.

Communicating worker?s compensation claim information and incident rates to supervisors and managers on a monthly basis to facilitate injury prevention and safety improvements.

Implementing an industrial accident investigation program that includes supervisor/manager training and inspection forms development. Inspecting severe accident scenes to determine cause and the potential future hazards. Assisting in the development of workstation improvements and potential preventive corrective actions.

Conducting informational meetings and training sessions to satisfy regulatory requirements and promote general safety concepts and safety consciousness.

Developing and providing training for regulatory compliance programs that can be implemented by location managers and/or supervisors, including but not limited to: safety orientation; hearing conservation; respiratory protection; hazard communication; electrical safety (lockout/tagout); chemical safety and process safety management; material handling and powered industrial vehicle permits; personal protective equipment; emergency response planning; and first aid response personnel.

Administering the personal protective equipment benefit programs, for items such as prescription safety glasses and steel-toed shoes.

Administering the facility security activities including keyless entry system and security staff. Establishing security operational procedures for activities such as guarding and patrolling physical property, traffic control, observation and reporting of safety problems, investigation of criminal acts and security staff scheduling.

Preparing and maintaining governmental regulatory reports and permits including but not limited to emissions to air, surface water, stormwater, wastewater, groundwater, occupational safety, and industrial waste disposal.

Overseeing and/or conducting industrial health investigations, including: noise, heavy metals and acid airborne concentrations, indoor air quality (ie, asbestos, bioaerosols), drinking water quality and ergonomics.

Administering the safety committees to evaluate and recommend operational safety improvements.

Implement wellness programming and healthy lifestyles promotion. Manage on-site weight loss programs and wellness contests. Research and generate weekly postings to promote general wellness.

Experience Level:
5+ Years

Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum bachelor?s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, regulatory compliance or equivalent.

Minimum three (3) years experience in an industrial environmental, health and safety capacity; five (5) years preferred.

Certified Worker?s Compensation Professional (CWCP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.

Read and write in English fluently and accurately. Translate written materials into Spanish with the help of software programs preferred.

Read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence and regulations. Write complex correspondence, training materials and regulatory compliance reports.

Effectively present information on both one-on-one and group situations to clients, contractors, visitors and employees.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Convert values into different units of measure.

Ability to analyze data and develop statistics from complex systems.

Read a 24-hour schedule written in military time. Tell time from a digital or analog clock. Calculate time expired since a specific date.

Understanding state, federal and local regulations and letters of interpretation. Understanding the intricacies and effects of case law and the legal system. Ability to understand ISO procedures, policies and best management practices.

Understand air and water laboratory reports; blueprints; diagrams; and maps. Knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and reporting methodologies.

Good observational, organizational and investigative skills.

Operation of a personal computer including word processing, spreadsheet, database, security, graphics internet browser and electronic mail programs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software; scanner and digital camera operation.

Good organizational, written, and verbal presentation skills.

Ability to perform a variety of tasks with constant interruptions in the form of e-mails, telephone calls and employee inquiries. Ability to think clearly, remain calm, make sound decisions and direct others during an emergency situation.
