Technical Writer
Duties
Take responsibility for documenting assigned features and documentation errors related to Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), virtual private networks (VPNs), and routing protocols (such as OSPF, BGP, and IS-IS).
Lead an effort to share content across multiple business groups.
Work with a team of software writers and editors to produce high-quality, timely documentation for our Internet routing software.
Work closely with development, test, and customer support engineers to gather information about new software features, research the technologies involved, produce relevant examples for customers, and develop effective customer documentation.
Provide suggestions and prototypes for effective graphics to illustrate complex, state-of-the-art technical features.
Skills
Working knowledge of Arbortext Epic Editor (or equivalent XML authoring tool) and TeamSite (or equivalent content management system) is required.
Knowledge of routers, switches, telephony, routing protocols (such as OSPF, BGP, and IS-IS), MPLS, VPNs, and the IP protocol suite is required.
Familiarity with optical WAN/LAN interfaces (such as SONET/SDH, ATM, and Gigabit Ethernet) and hands-on experience with router configuration are a plus.
Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
Must be extremely self-motivated and flexible, with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and move quickly among projects.
Ability to work both independently and as part of the software and technical publications teams required, with a passion for excellence and quality.
Requires B.A., B.S., or equivalent, and 8+ years of technical writing experience, primarily in networking.
