Job Description: RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) for the Countermeasure and Response Administration (CRA) project at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This position is part of a dynamic team building an advanced data collection and data warehouse solution to store and provision countermeasure administration data for the CDC. This system supports the agency?s public health mission to protect the U.S. population from natural and man-made disease threats. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Developing and maintaining physical OLTP and OLAP data models and databases. Monitoring and supporting development and test database instances. Application and database architecture. Database tuning and performance. ETL processing and transformation of collected data into data warehouses. Packaging of database releases, migration of stored data, and production deployment support. Use of configuration management tools to ensure retention and control of each version of the database including the design, scripts, and other assets. Investigate and resolve any database-related performance problems, recommend changes to improve performance, and then implement those changes when they are approved. Conducting database design reviews, ensuring that database designs accurately reflect the business requirements. Managing database user access. Ensuring the security of the data within the database. Working with data center operations teams to ensure proper maintenance and monitoring of OLTP and OLAP databases servers. Produce standard reports, documentation, and other deliverables as necessary to communicate with project teams and business owners. Hours: 8am to 5pm

Requirements: REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Required Skills: 5+ years' data modeling experience. 5+ years' database administration experience. Expert knowledge of physical database modeling concepts (object, relational, and dimensional). Knowledge of Object Oriented Analysis/Object Oriented Design OOA/OOD). Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005 & SQL language. Knowledge of and experience with Oracle 9/10 and SQL language. Experience with administration, tuning, backups, triggers, maintenance plans, stored procedures, user-defined data types and functions, and data normalization / de-normalization. Expert knowledge of industry-standard data modeling tool(s). Experience with ETL tools and technology. Ability to work in a dynamic team environment. Knowledge of OLAP architecture and experience with analysis, visualization, and reporting tools including GIS systems. Experience working on software development projects and knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices. Desired Skills: Experience with Object Relational Mapping (ORM) tools. Familiarity with Java development environments. Familiarity with HL7 data structures. Familiarity with data exchange & messaging technologies and concepts. Experience with open source databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Hypersonic. Educational Requirements: BS/BA required, [Major: Computer Science].
