Job Description: The Computer Merchant is currently looking for a Sr. Network Engineer to work in Oakland, CA with the following skills:
Job Summary:
Responsible for the daily operations of data communications and telecommunications networks. Performs and oversees the telecommunications network planning, installation, and evaluation of new products that relate to company initiatives. Manages multiple telecommunications projects, assessing technical requirements and deadlines. Directs/Manages vendors, network engineers and end users in complex projects. Plans and monitors the installation of communications circuits. Responsible for related network management and reporting.
Core Responsibilities:
§ Design, develop, document, analyze, create, test or modify systems and programs based on and related to user or system design specifications
§ CISCO Call Manager and UNITY administration for all daily IPT operations for North America IPT sites in the repair, maintenance and moves/adds/changes functions via Remedy tickets and user requests, including IDF closet wiring, cabling, and punchdowns.
§ 24/7 availability to respond immediately to the Helpdesk for urgent requests, outages, and emergencies, including SEV1 and SEV2 IPT issues.
§ Perform client consultation: Assist in designing server network; plan for installations of routers and hubs
§ Provide technology support: Plan the installation of IPT servers, networks, routers, and systems hardware; troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to complex hardware/software problems; alert management, help desk team, and other IT groups when sensitive issues arise or a major problem is suspected
§ Test LAN/WAN communication and routing products; be responsible for the creation of test platforms, including evaluation of test equipment and design test networks
§ Coordinate and manage IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure
§ Research and evaluate solutions for continual cost savings
Primary Technical Knowledge/Educational Background:
§ Thorough understanding of distributed systems architectures and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines
§ Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the area of telecommunication networks, network topologies, PC workstations, network files servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques
§ Ability to solve network problems or network infrastructure issues and to predict and manage the performance and capacity of a LAN/WAN environment
§ Minimum of Bachelor?s degree from a four-year college or university
§ 4 to 6 years of related experience in telecommunications infrastructure/network environments performing network engineering, network designing, and implementing IPT, VoIP, LANs, WANs using latest technology
§ Ability to assess internal and external communication practices; anticipate future network requirements, and research and analyze new technologies
§ Highly skilled and proficient in the theoretical and practical application of highly specialized information in the implementation of voice services, including VOIP and IPT systems analysis, programming and software engineering.
§ Deep knowledge and administration of CISCO IPT CCM, UNITY, IPCC Express, CER, and CDR,
§ Apply analysis techniques and procedures, and consult with users, vendors and management to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications.
Secondary Technical Knowledge (inc. Communications skills):
§ Familiarity with Unix systems desirable, with experience in installation and administration of one or more operating systems
§ Windows XP, DOS, Commview, MS Outlook, MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Remedy.
