Description: Ideally, the manager would like this contractor based in New London, CT, but will also consider Parsippany, NJ as a location.
The Engineering Lab Administrator is the onsite resource to configure, monitor, and maintain non-production information technology components in support of Engineering evaluations, proof of concepts and the Production Acceptance process. This individual works under the direction of the Engineering Lab Team Leader, and receives instructions from Engineering and Operations technical personnel.
Job Duties: - Installing and uninstalling computing and networking hardware - Installing and uninstalling computing and networking software - Configuring hardware and software to meet a specified set of requirements - Performing basic system administration functions for Windows and Unix environments, including executing back-ups at specified intervals - Monitoring and maintaining all lab computing and network components to ensure they remain operational and support the business with agreed upon levels of service - Troubleshoot hardware and software problems and arranging for service - Removing or reconfiguring hardware and/or software after a project is completed to restore the lab environment to the planned state - Providing 1st level troubleshooting of incidents in the lab, and escalating to Lab Leader when required - Assist with documentation of operating procedures and the continuous improvement of processes and procedures. - Accomplishing the tasks in the execution plan for a specific lab project with direction and support from Engineering and Operations users - Administering security, including adding, deleting, and updating users, to maintain a safe computing environment in the lab to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability by addressing identification, authentication, authorization, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation - Coordinate with other groups such as DBAs, Corporate security, network operations etc to ensure that firewall, data base and network configurations are approved and in compliance with requirements.
Qualifications: Required - 4 year degree in Computer Science, or equivalent technical training, or equivalent experience administering Unix or Windows environments - Basic knowledge of hardware, system software, networking, and storage technologies - Strong communication skills - Strong problem-solving skills - Strong organization skills Desirable - Windows Systems Administration experience including installation, monitoring, backup and recovery, performance tuning, optimization, scripting, patches, Windows packages, and product installations - Sun Unix / Linux Systems Administration experience including installation, monitoring, backup and recovery, performance tuning, optimization, scripting, patches, Sun packages, RHEL packages and product installations - Experience monitoring and configuring Cisco and Net Appliance Network products, including: routers, switches, filers, and hubs - Windows, Sun, Cisco certifications,
