Job Description: This position is responsible for developing products that contain mechanical and electromechanical devices and subsystems. Specific challenges include designing mechanical components, integration of mechanical components and systems into military platforms, developing prototype hardware, conducting engineering tests, and preparing technical documentation. The position requires a high level of technical competency and the ability to work and communicate with others at all levels of the organization.
Job Responsibilities:
Under limited supervision, the engineer will develop, document, and maintain designs, processes, methods, and tools to resolve programmatic and technical problems. The engineer will perform trade studies; prepare designs and/or drawings utilizing computer-aided design equipment, perform necessary calculations, and coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups. The engineer will represent the engineering organization as a prime technical contact on new projects and proposals. The engineer will write standards and develop research problems to improve manufacturing processes, assist with resolving supplier problems that affect cost, delivery, or performance, and participate on Integrated Product Teams (IPT).
Primary Responsibilities:
Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Designs products and/or systems such as; geared mechanisms, hydraulics, electromechanics, controls and instrumentation, as well as other mechanical systems by applying knowledge of engineering principles. Participates in the development and fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications. Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software. Recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Job Requirements:
· BS Mechanical Engineering (MS Preferred)
· Minimum 4+ years mechanical or machine design experience in aerospace or defense related field
· Proficiency with NX CAD software or similar preferred
· Gun or military system design experience preferred
· Team Center Experience Preferred
· Proficient with GD&T
· In-depth understanding of mechanics of materials, mechanical systems, and manufacturing processes
