Job Description: IT Field Engineer / Tech Support position in Ashburn VA

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY: The selected candidates will be responsible for installation, commissioning and servicing of all hardware and Components. Responsibilities would include the following, ?Installs, modifies and makes minor repairs to systems delineated in this task and provides technical assistance and training to system end users. ?Performs telephonic or on-site surveys (including wireless surveys). ?Works with local communications engineers to establish wireless connectivity and antenna placement and type. Confirms absence of RF interference ?Records exact placement and type of required antenna and submit all required data to local communications engineers. Hardware - Knowledgeable in the installation and trouble-shooting of the hardware platform for fielded applications which includes Pentium CPUs, Sony/Kodak cameras, bar code and fingerprint scanner devices, laser printers, modems, terminal servers, and various LAN and firewall configurations. ?Serve as the support office for all matters pertaining to maintaining and sustaining the system ?Provide centralized technical support for end users to report software, hardware and telecommunications problems. Develop, test and implement computer programs. ?Track all incoming trouble calls from call initiation to problem resolution. Diagnose end-user reported problems by working with the end user to resolve the problem, calling warranty trouble tickets in to the vendor, or assisting in shipping parts back to manufacturers. ?Respond for the purposes of diagnosing, trouble shooting, and if possible repairing on the spot. ?Response time for a new trouble ticket will be within 3 days as per warranty provisions. ?Oversee the manufacturer?s maintenance agreement/warranty obtained on all equipment procured ?Act as liaison between the end user and the manufacturer. This includes packaging and tracking all required equipment returns to the manufacturer. ?Advise receiver of site equipment and serial number changes. ?Provide appropriate accountability documentation as the equipment is removed from the control of the end user. ?Assist with the installation of systems at end-user locations. ?Assist with training end-users on operations. ?Provide technical support for software and hardware upgrades.

Requirements: Required Skills & Experience: ?5 or more years technical IT experience. ?3 or more years experience in installing hardware, communications components, and cabling, and software of this type of complexity. ?1 year of experience with 802.11b equipment, wireless antennas and RF surveys. ?Software - Knowledgeable in the Windows 2000/2003 Operating System environments and 2000/XP Workstation ) and Oracle RDBMS, used in both the client and server portions of the RAPIDS/BIDS-DBIDS/ACTUR applications. ?Application - Knowledgeable in the applicable service regulations as implemented in the BIDS-DBIDS application. Must also be thoroughly familiar with fielded DMDC application?s design and operation in order to conduct user training. ?Communications - Knowledgeable in the communications requirements of DMDC applications which include TCP/IP connectivity between the client and server. Also requires the ability to install, configure, and maintain various communications configurations such as modem or LAN connections between client and server components. ?Maintaining working knowledge of IP, hubs, routers, modems, and other telecommunications protocols, hardware, software.
