Job Description:
Leading the way in managing the complexity and cost of specialty medicine. The company is the nation's leading pharmacy focused on the unique needs of patients utilizing specialty pharmaceuticals to treat their complex illnesses. This is the largest specialty pharmacy in the U.S., with revenues of $8 billion in 2008. The company and has 4400 associates, including 800 nurses and 400 pharmacists, serving patients from all 50 states through over 70 pharmacy locations. The regional pharmacies are complemented by a network of infusion centers, a 24/7 clinical call center, specialized patient care teams organized around individual therapies, and local nursing services nationwide. Additionally, doctors from around the country are supported by a substantial field support organization. Revenues have tripled in the last four years, while the company increased operating margins. Strong performance is expected again for 2009. This company entered the specialty medication business in the 1980s, as a pharmacy for growth hormone patients, and now manages a drug portfolio in excess of 180 drugs used to treat over 25 different health conditions. Over the years, the company built the business on service excellence to patients and physicians. The company also earned the trust and confidence of drug manufacturers as reflected in having the broadest access to limited distribution drugs in the industry -- over 30 exclusive or restricted drug distribution arrangements from 25 different manufacturers. In the last three years, a fourth key constituent has emerged -- managed care companies -- healthplans (medical benefit) and PBMs (pharmacy benefit) -- who are able to control access to drugs, pharmacies, and service providers within their membership ranks. With the biotech drug pipeline growing, and specialty drug costs increasing at two-to-three times that of traditional drug trend, managed care companies are seeking to control drug costs and deliver meaningful savings with improved health outcomes to plan sponsors. The role will have a high level of interaction with and visibility into all functional areas of the company, as well as the Company product organization and business segments.
