Safe Job Searching Tips

      Here are some guidelines and tips to practice when applying to jobs online:
  • Never give out your social security number. Instead, try requesting a phone number
    so you can verify why they need this information and determine if it sounds like a
    legitimate request or not.

  • Beware of jobs requiring payment. A good example of this is, "To receive your
    introductory package please provide the following credit card information..." A lot of
    work from home jobs are like this. Do not give out credit/banking information unless
    you are positive about the company requesting payment and you know exactly what
    you are getting. Check to make sure you are on a secure site.

  • Do not give out personal information that is not work related, such as age, height,
    marital status, eye color, etc., either online or over the phone.

  • Use passwords that have no relation to you, never use phone number, date of birth,
    etc. Change your password frequently and NEVER give it out. Try to avoid using the
    same password for multiple accounts.
