Job Description & Qualifications:

The Vehicle Architecture and Engineering Organization designs, develops and validates state-of-the-art vehicle-level driver assist technologies or features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Active Park Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with AEB, Ford Co-Pilot 360 and other SAE Level 2/3 autonomous technologies.
This position is for an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Engineer and focuses on ensuring the feature delivers the expectations of the customer. You will develop and implement customer user experiences, feature requirements and specifications (including functional safety) at a system and sub-system level and validate them according to the systems engineering model. As an ADAS Engineer, you will collaborate with research engineers, designers, hardware and software developers to develop the requirements for these advanced and autonomous systems. You will also develop new verification methods and work with vehicle, hardware-in-the-loop, model-in-the-loop and other advanced testing methodologies to validate your feature.
Our diverse Vehicle and Architecture Engineering Organization is a global team of approx. 4500 employees situated in 12 worldwide locations including Detroit, Palo Alto, Mexico, Europe and Asia. Our team develops and tests vehicle architectures and advanced features and has testing operations around the world and manage a capital expenditure budget of over $1B. As a team player, you will create impact by collaborating with key work partners throughout the Ford Motor Company research, product, marketing, engineering, test and technology teams.
This position is located at Fords Greenfield Labs in Palo Alto, CA. We are a research lab within Ford that is investigating immersive simulation environments, computing platforms, software & hardware architectures, sensors & strategies for fusing information from a variety of external & internal environmental sensors for next generation active safety technologies

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with research and strategy teams to design, research, and develop ADAS features and prepare them for program implementation
  • Lead the customer user experience, design, development and architecture creation for new ADAS features
  • Lead the development of customer user experience and feature development
  • Develop & refine vehicle level feature concepts, uses cases, interfaces, and feature level specifications to ensure production feature delivery
  • Establish Feature objectives and ensure system operation to meet the end-user/customer objectives through a structured system level test methodology
  • Ensure new features seamlessly integrate with existing features to provide a superb customer experience
  • Work with the virtual validation teams to establish CAE procedures to reduce dependence on vehicle-level testing
  • Assure that the integration of affected systems meet the requirements for proper feature-level performance
  • Design validation methods to ensure feature robustness across all vehicle environmental conditions and customer usage
  • Use data analysis techniques and methods from data generated by track, lab and model-based validation methods to ensure feature achieves a desired set of specifications
  • Plan and execute real-world evaluations of ADAS features via vehicle/HIL/virtual testing and identify system problems and issues
  • Support and coordinate root-cause analysis with internal functions and external suppliers to ensure delivered system achieves feature requirements
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Product Development, Mathematics, Physics or related degree
  • 1+ year of experience developing ADAS or Autonomous technology
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Product Development, Mathematics, Physics or related degree
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering and developing system requirements
  • 1+ years in experience in authoring new requirements/specifications
  • 2+ years of experience in verification techniques (design verification methods, data acquisition/analysis, hardware-in-the-loop virtual tools (HIL/MIL/SIL)
  • 1+ years of experience with model based design: Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow
  • Experience applying machine learning to robotics and image processing
  • Understanding of typical automotive interfaces: CAN, CANFD, Autosar, Auto-Ethernet, etc.
  • Experience with Agile tools: JIRA, RALLY/CA, GitHub
  • Understanding of Functional Safety (ISO 26262) & Failure Mode Avoidance
  • Experience with rapid prototyping
  • Familiarity with Vector CANape, CANalyzer and dSPACE Control Desk
  • Experience developing test plans
  • Project management experience
  • Strong oral & written skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when necessary
  • Strong teamwork & interpersonal skills
