Specimen Processor (Lab #2185 FT)
Location: Eugene, OR
Salary Range: $11.38 - $15.94/Hourly
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Benefits: 40 Hrs/Wk; Benefited
Employment Type: Full Time
Department: Main Lab
Description: Performs specimen processing for all OMG locations using knowledge of department procedures as well as supports and assists lab staff.
Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)
1. Receives, collects and handles specimens.
2. Performs phlebotomy services as needed.
3. Identifies, labels, and processes specimens.
4. Organizes and prioritizes work duties.
5. Answers telephone, takes messages and provides routine laboratory information.
6. Performs data entry as required.
7. Communicates clearly verbally and in writing. Communicates appropriate information to healthcare providers regarding specimen collection.
8. Distributes reports and specimens to appropriate location, physician, etc.
9. Stores specimens under appropriate environmental conditions.
10. Determines when current actions fall outside of department protocol and resolves as appropriate, including notifying the section supervisor or location manager.
11. Performs and participates in department quality assurance program procedures.
12. Disposes of contaminated material according to established policy and OSHA regulations.
13. Possesses ability to reconcile OMG laboratory invoices and other bills of lading or invoices.
14. Maintains work area including appropriate record keeping, ordering and stocking of supplies, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
15. Follows established laboratory policies and procedures.
16. Demonstrates flexibility, cooperation and supports team goals as well as demonstrates professional behavior.
17. Helps orient and train new laboratory staff as needed.
18. Uses available resources to troubleshoot.
19. Attends staff meetings as required.
20. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
21. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Equivalent of a high school diploma.
2. Knowledge of chemistry, biology or related fields preferred.
3. 1-2 years in a medical laboratory.
4. Knowledge of phlebotomy.
5. Healthcare level CPR certification required.
6. Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory test.
7. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks.
8. Knowledge of chemistry to understand and identify reactions involved in testing.
9. Skill in preparing written reports concerning the results of laboratory test; ability to type proficiently.
10. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
11. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
12. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
13. Ability to follow written protocols.
14. Ability to communicate clearly.
